CONGRATULATIONS & WELCOME
Our congratulations to the following Chicago priests who were awarded Papal Honors recently! Here is a letter from Cardinal George and the list of the names of the honored priests.
At the end of the Year for Priests, Pope Benedict XVI has honored a number of archdiocesan priests by making some his chaplains and others honorary prelates. Chicago has many priests who are exemplary in their life and their ministry, and a list of those deserving to be honored could contain hundreds of names. This list contains only 20.
Besides those honored because the title Reverend Monsignor is usually associated with their particular ministry in the church, there are a number of retired priests on the list. Each of them deserves to be
honored by the pope and the rest of us, but each of them also stands for brother archdiocesan priests who have served the Church in various ministries, here and elsewhere, for many years. Each bears a name he has honored by love and service, and each brings honor to us all. I am grateful to our Holy Father for his kindness and his attention to the Chicago presbyterate.

Next weekend, we extend our warmest welcome to the Rev. Msgr. John F. Canary. Msgr. Canary is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese. He was my Rector while I was at Mundelein Seminary. Throughout my priestly formation and ministry years, Msgr. Canary has been very encouraging and supportive. I am deeply grateful to him. While he continues to support my priestly ministry in the Archdiocese, he is also very concerned about the life, ministry, and people of the St. Therese community. I am so glad that he will be visiting us and presiding at the 8:00am and 9:30am Masses on Sunday, Sept. 12th. Please show him the traditional hospitality of St. Therese.
Also, the annual celebration of the Nativity of Our Lady sponsored by the Santa Maria Incoronata Club is this week. There will be a 7:00pm Mass on Wed. and on Sunday, the festival begins with a High Mass at 11:00am,
followed by processions, benediction, and dinner. All are welcome and a special welcome to all of our visitors.
THE WORD
Last Sunday, we were reminded of the significance of the virtues of humility and generosity. Today’s readings call our attention to the cost of discipleship. The word “disciple” means “learner.” To be Jesus’ disciple is to be his student and to learn from him. This learning is not only about knowledge, but more importantly, the way of his life. How we imitate him—the Way, the Truth, and the Life—in our daily lives is a question we have to answer. The qualification to be his disciple is very demanding: “Anyone who does not renounce all of his/her possessions
cannot be my disciple.”
Have a peaceful and joyful Sunday and week.

+ St. Therese Church “Preservation Fund” and “Matching Contribution” $17,423 raised so far! (Target: $25,000 by 10/31/10)
As communicated previously, to preserve our beautiful church, we have established the St. Therese Church Preservation Fund with a funds target of $50,000. We have a generous donor who will match the funds that we raise between July 1, 2010 and October 31, 2010, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.
As of September 3, 2010, we are at the $17,423 mark, versus the $25,000 target!

+ Updates and Invitations from the Parish Hospitality Committee
Hospitality is not only for those who came to the meeting. It is a virtue that we all have to cultivate, an effort that everyone is invited to make.
At our last meeting, we restructured our Hospitality Committee with three Subcommittees—namely, Greeter, Hospitality Hour (Reception), and Welcome Newly Registered Parishioners. George Lee continues to be the Hospitality Committee Coordinator. The Greeter Subcommittee Coordinators are George Lee and Darlene Chan. The Reception Subcommittee Coordinators are Anne Choate, Theresa Moy, and Gemma Wong. The Welcome Newly Registered Parishioners Subcommittee Coordinators are Lily May, Bernie Wong, and Kien Chai.
We would like to have greeters for all of our Sunday and Holyday Masses and we will have receptions after the 9:30 A.M. Mass every week. All of our coordinators are getting busy already. We hope to recruit more helpers to achieve our goals this weekend and next weekend. If you are willing to be a greeter, please fill out the following form and place it in the collection basket. You can also sign up at the main entrance of the church.
You are invited to be Greeters @ Sunday and Holyday Masses
+ If you don’t think you are called to be a greeter, how about joining the Reception Team?
This group is responsible for providing snacks after the 9:30 A.M. Mass each Sunday and a lunch one Sunday a month after the 9:30 A.M. Mass. If you enjoy cooking, please help us! We are looking for volunteers to sign up to bring snacks once every other month and to help prepare lunch and with cleanup. If you are willing and able to help, please speak to Theresa Moy, Gemma Wong, or Anne Choate and sign up at the main church entrance. If you have any food allergies that we should know about or if you would like to make suggestions about what food you would like to see served, please email them to annechoate@gmail.com. We will try to accommodate these needs/desires as best as we can. Thank you!
