+ Mary's Birthday

The special 11:00 AM High Mass is to celebrate today Mary’s birthday. The traditional procession through the streets of our Neighborhood will follow. We are grateful to the SMI Club for keeping alive this wonderful and suggestive tradition.

As the statue of Mary passes through our neighborhood we ask her to bless us, and all the families of our Parish.

+ “Christifideles Award”

We’d like to congratulate: Henry, Jennifer and Naomi Chan. Card. George will confer the award upon them at a ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral on Sunday, Sept. 21st, at 2:30PM. Only a limited number of people will be able to attend, but we can show our appreciation and pride at the banquet that John Lin is organizing. Please, put your name on the sign-up list if you intend to attend.

+ Beginning of the new catechetical 2008-2009

September 14th will mark the beginning of the New Catechetical Year. Teaching Catechism means to share your faith in Jesus. It is not an easy task since we deal with realities that are invisible. Unless the Holy Spirit speaks through us, and unless he opens the hearts and minds of our children there will be no meaningful teaching. We all ask God to put onto the lips of the catechists the right words to say and to open the hearts of our children with special prayers we shall offer during Mass

+ Church roof:

The total cost for the capital project is $ 48.500.00. We were able to raise $ 19,188.00 which, with the “Matching Contribution” makes 38,376.00. We need to raise $10,124.00

+ Buddhist and Catholic Dialogue

The members of the “Buddhist and Catholic Dialogue group” will be our guests at St. Therese on Friday Sept. 12th. We shall meet in church for meditation at 11:00am and then share the views of these two different religious traditions about “Honoring family Life”. Let me know if you intend to join us.

+ Parish Assembly:
It will be held on Saturday Sept. 13th at Darien. From 9:00am prompt to 4:00pm. Lunch will be served. You can have a look at the attached agenda for discussion and suggest new topics that I might have overlooked.

The Parish Assembly is the time when we create goals for the church and school in the up-coming year. We will determine dates for important events such as the Lunar New Year celebrations, International Noodles Night, and retreats. We will make preliminary plans for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter, plus other religious holidays. Etc.

+ Financial Report

In this issue you will find also the Financial Report for the Year 2007-08. We thank Nick and the Financial Committee for donating their time to help us monitor our finances.

+ Meeting with catechists:

Last Sunday we had a very fruitful and pleasant meeting with Catechists for the Year 2008-09. Christine and Carol did the preparation and made sure that everything went well. The food that was served was sponsored by the generosity of Debbe Oi.
