St. Therese 2nd Annual Read-A-Thon
Our 2nd Annual Read-A-Thon, to support Children’s Hope International and Nothing But Nets, was held on March 6, 2008 and was a great success. We do not have our totals in just yet, but we believe we have reached, or surpassed, our targets. Thank you everyone for your contribution to this worthy cause.
Look/Hear Grant
A grant from Big Shoulders Fund is allowing St. Therese to participate in a free vision and hearing screening for all children grades 1 – 8. (Our early childhood screening for PK, JK and K, called ChildFind, includes a vision and hearing screening.) If any child fails the vision portion of the screening, they are eligible to receive free glasses from Pearl Vision! The dates are Monday, March 31st and Tuesday, April 1st for the screening. On Monday, April 21st, the students who failed the vision portion will be taken to Pearl Vision in the morning.
Registration
Registration packets for the 2008-2009 school year are part of the April family packet. If you have a child entering pre-school, junior kindergarten, kindergarten or first grade, please contact Mrs. Chan immediately. Presently, there are no spots open but we are giving priority to current families. We will begin registration for 2009-2010 on August 20, 2008. Summer School registration is also part of the packet.
Promethean Boards
More Promethean Boards have arrived! Two of our primary grades, junior kindergarten and kindergarten, will be given Activprimary, the most sophisticated Interactive board available for the younger students. The sixth grade classroom has also had the technology installed. In addition to the installation of the additional boards, we are upgrading the early childhood computer areas within each classroom. Additional desktops with flatscreens will be brought in to classrooms PK – 2nd grades.
Security Updates
Over the spring break we had the camera surveillance system installed thanks to a safety block grant from the State of Illinois. The system will monitor more closely the activities within the building, around the building and the parking lot. The next grant allotment, coupled with any donations to this project, will be towards installing a new intercom system within the school.
Afterschool Snack
I encourage you to continue to send a healthy snack and drink with your child if they attend any afterschool program.
Sincerely,
Ms. Cavallone
